Distance learning in the school?

» Posted in News and articles

I work at an ordinary school, however, it is equipped with a LAN c Internet access, two computer rooms. Therefore, the information technology are very important in the learning process (in class, in the Methodology), in extracurricular activities to support school life.

And in the normal school, as well as elsewhere there is a question “how to teach, what to teach.”

That is what is written in the book of ninth-’School, what I want to see it “:

School of the future – is the lack of school as such. This – home schooling with computer innovations of the 21st century. I mean packet data directly into the human brain. …

I want to summarize that the formation of the future is closely linked to the development of computer technology …

I believe … that the computer can help learning in other subjects, as a textbook. Though computers – it is expensive, but let’s imagine a computerized school of the future: the pupils of this school are not a pile of books, but have only a small PDA (pocket PC), which is connected to a network-based Internet Wi-Fi. And the student can download the desired section of any textbook …

… It would be great if in the lessons we could travel back in time, for example, in chemistry class to go to the time when the periodic table has been drawn up, or travel to different chemicals. And in biology class visited a human body. Then it would be interesting to learn and easier. Learn more at http://edudegrees.org/online-tutoring-help/.

Also … could represent us in different creatures, then we would understand more precisely the nature. Economic geography, for example, would be to go and, of course, assist in the Duma …

… In a word, it would be better not to sit in their offices and not to solve repetitive examples, and penetrate into the essence and try it yourself …

See how our children identified target education and identified ways to achieve this goal (the use of information technology)!

However, in our school, teaching methods and remained traditional.

I work as the problem of teaching children with health problems. Some of them do not attend regular school, others miss much school. That less in connection with health education and information culture in general, in particular, they will be most needed in the profession. So I’m trying to apply the elements of distance learning as an additional, and in the ordinary school education.

Here I would like to share their experiences, identify common problems.

Experience first. Information technology training for children with hemophilia.

For each student was made a personal study plan, appropriate to its level of knowledge and set of learning tasks. During the year, the student would have to walk a few times testing to evaluate the quality of education, and possibly change the curriculum. Each student has a computer at home and Internet access. Teaching materials prepared in electronic form (used, in particular, materials Robotlandskogo University – http://www.botik.ru/ ~ robot / ru / index.htm). Students as possible to come to the classroom courses. At other times, they traded with the teacher by e-mail. In education necessarily involves participation in group activities – competitions, conferences, and seminars.

And the results are – if the parents are actively involved in the education of their child, the child had excellent results, and further (from 14 – 15 years) the transition to self-education. And such cases, unfortunately, very little.

Experience in the second. Distance learning course on programming for older students.

Several students in our school have tried to learn programming in addition to courses in ITMO. First graders traveled to ITMO a lecture and practice. It turned out that the school did not have enough training, so they quickly ceased to understand the theoretical material and solving the problems. Then we decided to organize a school group, which is registered in the system of distance learning in ITMO. Each student in this case can independently study the theory on materials published on the website of the course, to solve problems remotely participate in contests, get tested. In addition, they come to the classroom courses with a school teacher who was a kind of “interpreter” – answering questions, explaining to tasks, etc.

Results – The training took place much more slowly. However, the change is outlined only those students who are themselves more effort.

Experience in the third. Distance courses and competitions Center “Eidos”.

When searching the internet to search “Distance Education” contains link to Universities and Distance Education Centre “Eidos» (http://www.eidos.ru). It turned out that the Centre “Eidos” since 1997 organizes courses for students and teachers, as well as the Olympics. In the 2003 – 2004 school year, 55 competitions were held, involving 28,786 students from grades 1 to 11. There is, perhaps, not a single school subject, where such Olympiad was not offered.

At first I tried to get myself a distance course “Methodology for distance courses.” I, a specialist in information technology with a large (over 20 years) experience, it seemed that these activities will not take much time.

But the job, forms of work were so fascinating that I stayed while on vacation 10 days with computers, trying to develop their own distance learning course “School Logo.” And I did it! Of course, this was the first approximation, but this course is now being piloted, and new ideas.

Now I suggest to my colleagues (as teachers of computer science, and of subject) to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to improve their professional skills. The variety of courses offered by the Centre “Eidos” will allow everyone to find their direction.

Then, in our school in the 2003-2004 school year could hold three competitions with a total of 117 participants schoolchildren from 6 to 11 class – computer science, mathematics, social studies.
