In comments to their articles how to make a favicon.ico icon for your site and how to save site icon favicon in Photoshop, I ran into a common misconception that the icons for websites favicon does not necessarily save in the format ICO. Enough to keep the icon 16 × 16 format BMP, and then simply change the extension of the image with BMP to ICO. And there is supposedly no difference.

The fact that the ICO and BMP formats are completely different and differ not only in the expansion, I already wrote. Nobody forbids pogulit or read Wikipedia, to see this.
